The Virtual Server System is based on the idea of multiplexing a single UNIX server into multiple virtual machines or multiple virtual servers, each with its own IP address and domain name. When a request is received, the Virtual Server System determines which virtual server will service the request based on this unique IP address and then invokes the appropriate service to respond to the request.

By sharing the UNIX server (and the high speed DS3 bandwidth), you save thousands of dollars on the hardware, personnel, and time required to install, maintain, and service a dedicated connection (which for a typical business is no faster than a T1). Furthermore, the Virtual Server System offers tremendous Internet connectivity via multiple DS3's linked directly to the VerioNet fiber backbones.

The core services of the Virtual Server System- WWW, FTP, Email, and POP- are all completely configurable. For example, your virtual server includes an entire httpd directory tree comprising in part of your own cgi-bin, configuration files (httpd.conf, et al), and log files (access, error, and referer logs). Thus you can customize and configure your virtual server's WWW service to meet your specific needs (and meet them immediately) since you have complete control of your virtual server. Similar flexibility is afforded for the other virtual services.

The Virtual Server System can be easily extended to support popular technologies such as Microsoft FrontPage, Netscape Compatible Encryption, mSQL, autoresponders, Macromedia Shockwave, and many others. iManager, a remote site administration utility, and iRoot, which allow you to manage and maintain the content of your web site with ease and efficiency.

There are a number of useful utilities that extend the capability of your Virtual Server. Many of these Server Extensions, such as mSQL, RealAudio, RealVideo, and Microsoft FrontPage, are provided to you free of charge. However, some extensions (listed above) require additional setup fees and monthly charges.

The CGI library is meant to offer solutions for the basic scripting needs of our customers. The CGI library includes friendly advice and help setting up CGI scripts such as imagemaps, send comments cgi, guestlists, search engines, and counters (and more). The scripts are absolutely free and include source code.

Java applets and javascripts can be easily installed on the Virtual Server System. Many third party applications are also supported by the Vtual Server System.
